Nature of problem:
This program computes the counting efficiency of a complex beta emitter as a function of the figure of merit in liquid scintillators.
The beta spectra are calculated from the Fermi Theory of beta decay, taking into account shape factors. The total detection probability is obtained by dividing the spectrum into bands, calculating the detection probability for each of them and summing up. The average and mean energies in the spectra are also obtained.
The counting efficiency of negatron and positron emitters can be obtained. Electron capture nuclides are not considered. Specta are limited to 800 points maximum, although this condition may be removed by increasing the storage of the corresponding arrays.
The test requires about 22 s of UNIVAC 1100/81 cpu time.
