Manuscript Title: Smoothing of data by least squares fitting.
Authors: C. Wooff
Program title: SMOOTHF
Catalogue identifier: AALM_v1_0
Distribution format: gz
Journal reference: Comput. Phys. Commun. 42(1986)249
Programming language: Fortran.
Computer: IBM 3083.
Operating system: VM/CMS.
RAM: 2K words
Word size: 32
Keywords: Polynomial, Least squares, Fitting, Spectral data, General purpose.
Classification: 4.9.

Nature of problem:
This program uses a Fortran subroutine generated by a computer algebra package, for smoothing data. The weights used are derived from the applcation of formulae for least squares fitting.

Solution method:
The relevant data values are inserted into a simple linear expression.

Polynomials of degree 5 or less. Smoothing over a maximum of 11 points.

Unusual features:

Running time:
0.8 mS with the supplied data.
