Nature of problem:
Computation of the shape of a polytropic primary in a binary system, especially the case when the separation distance is at its minimum.

Solution method:
The gravitational potential is expanded in terms of spherical harmonics and the coefficients in the truncated expansion, being functions of the radial coordinate, are then determined numerically.

(i) The polytropic index must not be smaller than one. This restriction comes from the numerical procedure and could be removed.
(ii)It is assumed that the shape and other structural details of the secondary do not appreciably influence the primary. This restricts the complexity of the program.

Unusual features:
When solving the system of linear algebraic equations, the Gaussian elimination and the back substitution are executed in blocks and massive storage is used for storing and retrieving results of these operations. This feature of the program BINARY, unfortunately, decreases its portability.
